Horizon Europe NARRATIA

Visitor-Centred Generative Narratives and Mixed Reality to Transform the Cultural Heritage Experience

NARRATIA is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action that explores how generative artificial intelligence, mixed reality and participatory storytelling can transform the way people experience cultural heritage.

Many European heritage sites remain under-visited because their stories are difficult to access, only partly visible or not presented in ways that engage diverse visitors. NARRATIA addresses this challenge by transforming heritage sites into dynamic narrative environments where visitors can become both explorers and co-authors of personalised, historically grounded stories.

The project combines generative AI and immersive technologies with cultural heritage expertise, co-creation and strong ethical safeguards. Its aim is to create engaging cultural experiences while ensuring historical accuracy, cultural sensitivity, inclusion and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

NARRATIA will demonstrate its approach through six pilots in five European countries. The pilots cover different types of cultural heritage, including archaeological parks, medieval routes, baroque cities, UNESCO sites and industrial heritage. They will help assess the versatility, usability and wider replication potential of the NARRATIA solutions.
