Other activities

Organizing and mentoring INSPIRE Hackathons.  Smart & Lean Hub Oy has been involved in several  INSPIRE Hackathons initiated by Plan4all association: Nairobi 2019, Kampala 2020,  COVID 2019, Open Spring 2021 (https://www.plan4all.eu/inspire-hackathon/).  Hackathons have been virtual and they have lasted circa 3 months.  Challenge-based learning, doing by learning and co-creation have been key features in each hackathon.  Löytty has been a mentor for teams whose participants were mainly from the African continent. Hackathon reaches out the wide audience by webinars and effective social media communication.

At the field of continuous improvement and life-long learning (formal, non-formal, informal), the training, coaching and facilitation of more than 100 organizations and over 1000 persons. The adult learners have worked for example at the dairy, brewery, telecommunication, tax governance, National Post, National Pensions Institute, several social- and healthcare organizations and the Finnish Army.  In addition, Tuula Löytty has carried out high education in Finland and abroad. The content of the training, coaching and facilitation encompasses mainly the continuous improvement methodologies named Lean and Six Sigma, but also Circular Economy and project management topics.

Tuula Löytty has planned and contributed to 21 projects of which about 15 is EU granted projects (Horizon2020, Interreg, ESF, ERDF), and the rest have been funded from national sources.  The funding instruments, sectors and aims have been versatile. The target groups have varied from SMEs up to public administration.  The clear focus area has been industrial value chains, including food systems.

The design, partly coding and implementation of several pioneer ICT – solutions for example the common application for sugar beet farmers and sugar factory, sugar factory laboratory analysis system, sugar factory process balance analyst, and three different enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.  In addition, Tuula Löytty has contributed design of several mobile application prototypes.

Lean and Lean Six Sigma training experience

At the field of continuous improvement and life-long learning (formal, non-formal, informal), the training, coaching and facilitation of more than 100 organizations and over 1000 persons. The adult learners have in public and private organization. In addition, Tuula Löytty has carried out high education in Finland and abroad. The content of the training, coaching and facilitation encompasses mainly the continuous improvement methodologies named Lean and Six Sigma.

The target group has been working adult learners in various age groups and domains.  The target organizations have represented multiple sectors both in private and public fields:  for example the dairy, brewery, metal industry, municipality,  telecommunication, tax governance, National Post, National Pensions Institute, several social- and healthcare organizations, and the Finnish Army.

Tuula Löytty has lectured at high education institution at Lahti University of Applied Sciences (www.lab.fi) in Finland and abroad at S.Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University in Kazakhstan (https://kazatu.edu.kz/). 

The content of the training, coaching and facilitation encompasses mainly the continuous improvement methodologies named Lean and Lean Six Sigma, but also Circular Economy and project management topics.

Examples of Lean trainings:

  • Municipality of Mäntyharju; Lean sessions for staff to promote continuous improvement actitivities 2019-
  • Carrying out the Lean program for the municipality of Hollola in spring 2017. The program covered general Lean sprints for the whole staff and tailor-made coaching and tutoring for seven specific development groups.
  • Carrying out 12 days Lean program for the operators of WIPAK Oyj.  20 participants in spring 2017.
  • A 3-day Lean – training for SMEs.  10 participants in autumn 2017.
  • Lean info for PATRIA employees.  About 60 participants in 2016-2017
  • Planning and carrying out a 12 days Lean program for 16 participants.  Included coaching and mentoring their projects. Participants worked in various companies.  Winter 2016-2017.
  • Lean Coach for the training program of healthcare logisticians 2014-2016. Four carrying outs: a total of over 50 participants from all the biggest Hospitals in Finland.
  • Project manager and main Lean coach for Lean Programme. The training consists of 14 days. The Lean Programme was carried out four times during the years 2010-2013:  61 participants, 16 different organizations, 36 development projects.  Six of the participant were from the Central Hospital of Päijät-Häme.
